About me

A writer without readers is merely a voice quacking in the void.

Right now, as I try to find my writing legs once again, I rather enjoy my quacking - no ifs, no buts, and no one to please but myself.

However.

Should someone be kind enough to spare five minutes of their doubtless busy day to stop and hear me quack - spare another and leave a comment.  Just so's I  don't start believing myself a duck.

That is all.

  1. Hi Allegra, I found your blog from your comment to Frugal Queen. I am interested in your sourdough bread experiences as this is something we have thought of trying. Now I just make a very simple loaf called Amish Bread. I don't have a breadmaker but love to knead ( it's therapeutic).
I tried to find your blog online without going back through Froogs and cannot get it any which way. Do you know why?
    Thanks, Jan F

    1. I'm afraid I don't, Jan - I am new to the world of blogger, and its technical intricacies are still a mystery to me - but if you bookmark this page you'll be able to get back to it to find the post on sourdough which I am adding to my to-do list as we speak... I found sourdough quite simple, just needing a bit of daily commitment - watch this space !

  2. Hello Allegra. I found your blog through reading the threads on Mar where yourself, Weezl and lots of others, created the CAR website which I have been using since late 2011. I didn't know about the threads detailing its conception and birth though, found them eventually and started at the beginning with Weezl' s USDA challenge then 50p a day etc, taken about a year of reading so far (I don't have a lot of spare time).
Anyway I've just read your post (4437 20/6/10) and felt I wanted to connect with you as I appear to be going through an identity crisis myself currently, although I would not previously have defined it as such if questioned.
What you wrote resonated with me and I felt like crying (although mine is not specifically about money), at the moment I'm a bit over emotional and don't even know for sure why I felt I needed to contact you. Please ignore this if it seems weird/stalker-ish.
Thank you for writing such thought-provoking posts.
    Paula.

    1. LOL, yes, I hear that tablets do tend to have a mind of their own ! Blimey, though - fancy someone reading that mammoth all those years later and finding it resonated with them. Thank you for getting in touch - much as I am still comfortable with my analysis of who I was back then - I am still that - I am trying currently to resurrect one facet of this, specifically that of a writer, and well, knowing that, however briefly, I had a reader, helped :D Hope you stick around and find something worth reading in the future, too x

  5. EEEEK. ++++ Out of Cheese Error ++++ Okay, thanks, I shall investigate.

Right. There should be a "follow by email" thingy now in the top right corner - I can't see any way to disable the capcha on that (hates capcha, hates it forever, my preciousss)

  11. Hi Allegra. I am interested to know more about your "probiotics", I realise you probably won't be using them on your Paleo diet but I'd like to know more. I am a big fan of live yogurt but have recently been contemplating giving up dairy so would like to know your thoughts and also how you use the various different types you have mentioned and perhaps how to go about cultivating them for ourselves. Thanks.
